IK Ymer

IK Ymer (IK = Idrottsklubb, German: Sportklub) is a Swedish sports club in Borås .

The club was founded on September 14, 1917. At first only football was played , later handball , athletics (1919), volleyball , boxing (1923), cycling (1922), orienteering (1919), skiing (1922), bowling and boules were added. Handball is no longer offered today, nor is football (since 1931).

The association has around 1,600 members (as of 2008).

The club's successful athletes include Thure Ahlqvist , who won the silver medal in boxing (lightweight, up to 61.24 kg) at the Olympic Games in 1932 , and Harry Snell , road cycling world champion in 1948. The first women's handball team won the 1962 Swedish championship.

In addition, 74 national championship titles were won in athletics, 22 in cycling, six in boxing and four in skiing.
