The International Students of History Association (ISHA) is a student organization to promote the international exchange of students of history and related disciplines. It was founded in Budapest in 1990 and aims to promote better understanding and collaboration among students across borders. The main purpose of this is to organize international student conferences and workshops on various historical topics. Joint projects with partner organizations (e.g. Euroclio ) should also facilitate contact with science and professional practice for members.

Sections

The ISHA provides a network of member groups, so-called sections, currently in over twenty European countries. Students at universities in Central and Eastern European countries are particularly well represented. In the German-speaking region there are currently sections in Berlin , Heidelberg , Jena , Marburg , Salzburg and Zurich , with numerous contacts to other locations. In addition to the international events, the members of the sections regularly organize excursions and lectures.

Events

The international conferences and seminars of the ISHA are organized in loose succession by the sections, so that around four to five events are held in different regions of Europe every year. An ISHA seminar lasts between four and seven days and holds an academic program on a historical topic for between 50 and over 100 participants, which is supplemented by cultural and leisure activities. The aim is to enable the participants to get to know fellow students from different countries and with different backgrounds and to discuss different aspects of the common subject with them. The host city and country can be explored through guided tours and excursions.

In addition to the international events, the ISHA, in cooperation with its partner organizations, offers the opportunity to collaborate on joint projects and also offers advanced students and doctoral candidates the opportunity to participate in specialist conferences.

magazine

The magazine 'Carnival' appears annually, in which students have the opportunity to publish their essays (e.g. term papers, excerpts from theses, essays) in English. The journal is available at many universities and libraries in Europe.
