iUniverse is a 1999 in the United States , was established in vanity press for self-publications . The company produces more than 5000 books per year using the book-on-demand (BOD) method. The offices are located in New York City , Nebraska and Shanghai . The company has a strategic partnership with the US book retail chain Barnes & Noble , which was also a partner. In 2007 iUniverse was bought by competitor AuthorHouse . Until then, iUniverse was considered one of the largest BOD companies in the United States.

The authors have to bear the creation of the digital template and the additional costs themselves. For this the author receives u. a. the allocation of an ISBN , inclusion in the online store and at least one printed edition for yourself. In addition to creating the books, the publisher also offers publishing services such as marketing and editing for an extra fee .
