Ian Gomm

Ian Robert Gomm (born March 28, 1947 in Chiswick , West London ) is a British guitarist , singer and songwriter who played for Brinsley Schwarz from 1970 to 1974 . As a member, he was named best rhythm guitarist in 1971 by the New Melody Maker (NME). In 1979 he came as a soloist with the single Hold on to number 18 on the Billboard Top 100 in the United States . With that he is classified as a one hit wonder .

Gomm set up his own recording studio in Wales in 1974 , where he worked with musicians like Alexis Korner and the Stranglers . His song Cruel to Be Kind , which he wrote with his ex-colleague at Brinsley Schwarz, Nick Lowe , reached number twelve in the British singles charts in 1979, with Lowe as the singer .
