Ian Lariba
Ian Lariba (born October 13, 1994 in Cagayan de Oro ; † September 2, 2018 in Taguig ) was a Filipino table tennis player . She took part in the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Career
Left-handed Ian Lariba began playing table tennis at the age of 9. She later began studying at De La Salle University (Manila) .
Ian Lariba qualified to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. At that time she was ranked 325th in the ITTF world rankings . Before that, no table tennis player or table tennis player from the Philippines had participated in the Olympic Games. Here she carried the flag of her country during the opening ceremony. In the singles she was eliminated in the first round against Han Xing from the Republic of the Congo.
In May 2017, a few months after the Olympic Games, she was diagnosed with the blood cancer disease leukemia . She succumbed to this disease in September 2018.
