Ian Leslie, 21st Earl of Rothes
Ian Lionel Malcolm Leslie, 21st Earl of Rothes (born May 10, 1932 , † April 15, 2005 in Salisbury ) was a Scottish peer and therefore a member of the House of Lords from May 17, 1975 to November 11, 1999 . He was on leave at least during the 1997/98 session.
He was the eldest son of Malcolm Leslie, 20th Earl of Rothes, and his wife, Beryl Dugdale, and moved to southern England with his parents when he was 7 years old. He went to Eton College and was a sub-lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve from 1953, serving on HMS Vanguard . In 1955 he married Marigold Evans-Bevan of Wales, a daughter of David Evans-Bevan. The couple had two sons: James (* 1958) and Alexander (* 1962).
When his father died in 1975, he inherited his nobility titles Earl of Rothes and Lord Leslie . Through the reform of the House of Lords in 1999 he lost the hereditary seat in parliament.
His maternal grandmother, Noël Leslie, Countess of Rothes , survived the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912 .
Lord Rothes died after a long illness at the age of 72 on April 15, 2005, his eldest son James Malcolm David inherited his title of nobility.
