The Río Ibor is an approximately 60 km long southern tributary of the Río Tajo in the southeast of the Spanish province of Cáceres in the autonomous region of Estremadura .

The source of the Río Ibor is located on the north side of the Sierra de Guadelupe in the area of ​​the municipality of Guadalupe . Its path leads constantly north or north-west to its confluence with the Valdecañas dam, which dams the Río Tajo .

Tributaries and reservoirs

The Río Ibor is fed by numerous streams (arroyos) or (gargantas) ; the only longer tributary is the Río Pinarejo. The last 3 km of the river are dammed by the Valdecañas dam.

With the exception of Navalvillar de Ibor , there is not a single place on the river itself , but several communities on its banks are nicknamed Ibor (e.g. Bohonal de Ibor , Navalvillar de Ibor, etc.).

Attractions

The Río Ibor is very clean and rich in fish, as neither municipal nor agricultural sewage is discharged. Parts of its shore zones are accessed by hiking trails and lined with smaller beaches. In the municipality of Bohonal de Ibor, a medieval and a modern bridge cross the river. A few kilometers southeast of its source are the Ermita de Humilladero and located in a valley pilgrimage Guadalupe , whose monastery ( Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe ) in the list of the 1993 UNESCO - World Heritage Site was recorded.
