Ibrahim Olgun (born September 11, 1987 in Mistelbach , Austria ) is the former President of the Islamic Religious Community in Austria (IGGiÖ).

Life

Olgun was born in 1987 in Mistelbach , Lower Austria, as the second son of a Turkish guest worker . After primary and secondary school in Matzen , he attended the Technological Trade Museum in Vienna , which he completed in 2007 with the Matura .

After completing military service in the armed forces , he studied Islamic theology at the theological faculty of Ankara University .

From 2013 to 2014 he was integration officer at ATIB Union . Since 2014 he has been working as a specialist inspector for the Islamic religion in Vienna and as the second deputy head of the IGGiÖ's school office. Since June 2016, the President of the IGGiÖ has been the Chairman of the Supreme Council and a member of the University Council of the Church Educational University in Vienna / Krems .

In November 2018, the IGGiÖ's Shur Council decided early elections on December 8, 2018. Ibrahim Olgun announced that he would no longer stand as a candidate. Ümit Vural was elected as his successor.

Positions

In an interview with Profil magazine at the end of 2016, he explained that although the headscarf is part of the practice of religion and an obligation for women in Islam, they must decide for themselves whether or not to adhere to them.

Ibrahim Olgun rejects the theory of evolution . He and the Islamic Faith Community in Austria would never speak out in favor of “wrong developments like the theory of evolution”. Darwin's theory of evolution is "just a theory" for him.
