Ibrahim Yacouba (* 8. August 1971 in Maradi ; and Ibrahim Yacoubou ) is a Nigerien politicians, trade unionists and sports official. He was his country's transport minister from 2011 to 2013 . From 2016 to 2018 he was Niger's Foreign Minister .

Life

Ibrahim Yacouba went to elementary and middle school in his hometown of Maradi. He then attended the Ecole Nationale d'Administration (ENA) in Niamey , where he received a diploma as a customs controller in 1991. He then worked in the Nigerian customs system. From 1998 to 2002 he trained as a chief customs inspector at the ENA and from 1999 to 2001 he was Secretary General of the Student Representatives at the ENA. Yacouba was involved in the union of customs officials, was its deputy general secretary from 2001 and its general secretary from 2003. He has also worked in senior positions for several civil society organizations. Among other things, he was the coordinator of the Réseau National Dette et Développement (RNDD) from 2004 to 2010. This anti- neoliberal alliance was founded in 2002 to achieve debt relief for the third world country Niger. Yacouba also worked as a sports official, for example in 2009 as President of the basketball association Fédération nigérienne de Basket and from 2009 to 2012 as Vice-President of the football association Fédération nigérienne de football .

Ibrahim Yacouba was appointed Minister of Transport to Prime Minister Brigi Rafini's government in 2011 by President Mahamadou Issoufou . In February 2013, Yacouba announced the creation of a new national airline called Niger Airways . During a government reshuffle in August 2013, he lost his post as Minister of Transport to Saley Seydou . Instead, he became Deputy Head of Cabinet of the President in September 2013 . In August 2015, Yacouba was expelled from the ruling Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS-Tarayya) on the grounds that he would put his personal interests above those of the party . He resigned from his cabinet post and founded his own party, the Nigerien Patriotic Movement (MPN-Kiishin Kassa). Yacouba entered the running for the Nigerien Patriotic Movement in the 2016 presidential election, finishing fifth out of fifteen candidates with 4.52% of the vote. The re-elected President Mahamadou Issoufou brought him back into the government on April 11, 2016 as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Nigerien Abroad. On April 11, 2018, Yacouba resigned from this office and his party MPN-Kiishin Kassa left the ruling coalition. Kalla Ankourao became the new foreign minister .
