Icelinus is a genus of fish from the family of psychrolutidae (Psychrolutidae). The species of the genus occur near the coast in the northern Pacific from Japan via the Okhotsk Sea , the Bering Sea , the Aleutian Islands , the coasts of Alaska , Canada , and the USA to Baja California (Mexico). They live from the intertidal zone to depths of around 570 meters.
features
Icelinus species are elongated fish with a large head. They reach a length of 4.2 to 27 cm. Characteristic for the genus is a double row of scales on both sides of the back, as well as larger scales along the side line . Otherwise the animals have no scales. The beginning and end of the double rows of scales on the back are an important feature to distinguish the Icelinus species from one another. The upper spine of the gill cover is branched like antlers. The small pelvic fins only have two soft rays.
