I look at you (also: I look at you (Peep Peep) ) is a song by the Bavarian band Spider Murphy Gang from 1982, which is attributed to the Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW). It is a rock 'n' roll song, which in its reduced style and with the recurring keyboard motifs takes up some of the influences of the NDW. Ich schau 'dich was published on the fourth album of the band Tutti Frutti and released as a single in October 1982.
Origin and text
Text and music come from the singer and bassist of the band Günther Sigl , the song was produced by Harald Steinhauer together with Armand Volker . The song describes a visit to a peep show . The protagonist enjoys the “far too short (e)” “lucky minute” before he has to “get back on the road”. It is one of several songs by the band that are about eroticism with a wink.
Publication and reception
The single was released on Electrola in October 1982 . On the B-side was the piece So a Schöne Tag . I'm looking at you reached number five in the German single charts. The single reached eleventh place in the charts in Austria and ninth in Switzerland. It came in 27th in the Netherlands and 30th in the Flemish part of Belgium .
The band performed the song on December 13, 1982 on the show Caution, Music! by Frank Zander . She also played the song twice in the ZDF hit parade in 1983 . When she first appeared on January 31, 1983, she was voted into second place by TED and was therefore allowed to play the song again in the following edition on February 28, 1983. On December 17, 1983, the Spider Murphy Gang played the song on Thommy's Pop Show in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle .
The song was used for the soundtrack of the Brazilian telenovela Louco Amor (1983), which makes it quite popular in Brazil. The single was sold there 400,000 times.
