The Idrijsko hribovje ('Hills of Idrija ') are a low mountain range on the southeastern edge of the Julian Alps and the northern edge of the Karst in southwestern Slovenia . The highest point of the Idrijsko hribovje is the 1170 m high Planinica mountain .
Location and landscape
The hilly area is about 50 kilometers west of Ljubljana , 40 kilometers northeast of Trieste , and 20 kilometers east of Gorica (Gorizia, Gorizia). It extends with altitudes of 700 to 1000 meters west of Idrija over 20 km, and covers about 200 km².
The landscape is located between the Idrijca valley in the north, east and south-east, and the Trebuščica , a tributary of the Idrijca, in the west and south-west. To the northwest lies the Šentviška Planoia , north the Cerkljansko hribovje , east the Rovtarsko hribovje , south the Trnovski gozd (Ternovan Forest), and west the Govci range of hills . The valley Hotenja - Kanomljica runs through the middle of the area from Dolenja Trebuša to Idrija. In the northern part, the Jelenk is the highest point at 1107 m.
The area forms the transition from the Alps to the high karst of the Dinarides , the mountainous region itself is already caste and caves, but is still well forested.
The southern part belongs to the Natura 2000 area Trnovski gozd - Nanos , in the southeast, on the upper reaches of the Idrijca, lies the Zgornja Idrijca nature park (Krajinski park Zgornja Idrijca) . Otherwise there are a number of smaller protected areas.
