Iferouane is a department in the region of Agadez in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the north of the country. It consists of the municipality of Iférouane and the rural municipality of Timia . The eponymous capital of the department is Iférouane.

history

The department goes back to the administrative post ( poste administratif ) of Iférouane, which was established in 1964. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Arlit department and elevated to the Iférouane department.

population

The Iférouane department has 32,731 inhabitants according to the 2012 census. From 2001 to 2012 the population increased by an average of 2.9% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
