Ignacio Iturria

Ignacio Iturria (born April 1, 1949 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan painter and graphic artist .

Ignacio Iturria is the son of a Basque immigrant. He graduated from the Universidad del Trabajo with a degree in advertising graphics . He also attended workshops with Verdié , Ramón Aguilar Moré and Nelson Ramos . In 1977 he moved to Spain and lived there in Cadaqués near Barcelona . In 1984 he returned to Uruguay. In 2006 he settled again in Cadaqués. In 2011 he founded the Fundación Ignacio Iturria .

Iturria's works can be found in the Museo José Luis Cuevas in Mexico , in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Montevideo, in the Metropolitan Museum in New York and in Caracas in the Museo de Bellas Artes and in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Sofía Imber . He also carried out numerous exhibitions worldwide. The countries in which his works have been shown include Argentina , Brazil , Cuba , Puerto Rico , Colombia , Ecuador , Mexico, Venezuela , Peru , Germany , Spain , France , Canada and the USA . In 1983 he took part in an international exhibition in Frankfurt on the subject of "Working on Paper". In 1989 he exhibited in the Übersee-Museum in Bremen .

Iturria has received numerous awards for its work. In 1989 he was awarded the "Fund for Artists Colonies" in the USA and the Asociación de Críticos de Arte del Uruguay prize in his native Uruguay . In 1994 he was awarded the Grand Prize of the IV Bienal Internacional de Pintura in Cuenca . In 1995 he received the Premio Casa di Risparmio at the Biennale di Venezia . In 2001 he was awarded the Premio Figari .
