Ignacio María de Orbegozo y Goicoechea (born March 25, 1922 in Bilbao , † May 4, 1998 in Chiclayo ) was a Spanish doctor and bishop in Peru.

Life

Orbegozo first studied medicine at the Universities of Madrid and Granada. Then theology and canon law at the Lateran University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on June 3, 1951. When Pope Pius XII. In 1957 Opus Dei entrusted the pastoral care of the territorial prelature of Yauyos , he appointed Orbegozo the first prelate of this territory in the Peruvian Andes and in 1963 titular bishop of Ariassus . He received his episcopal ordination from Cardinal Juan Landázuri Ricketts , OFM on January 25, 1964. In 1968 he was appointed Bishop of Chiclayo .

He participated in all 4 sessions of the 2nd Vatican Council .
