Ignatius John Doggett

Ignatius John Doggett OFM (born November 25, 1907 in Rydal , † September 17, 2004 ) was Bishop of Aitape .

Life

Ignatius John Doggett joined the Franciscan Order and was ordained a priest on July 2, 1933 .

Pius XII. appointed him on May 15, 1952 as Apostolic Prefect of Aitape . The Apostolic Delegate in Australia , Romolo Carboni , ordained him episcopal on May 30 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Bernard Denis Stewart , Bishop of Sandhurst , and John Francis Norton , Bishop of Bathurst .

The Pope elevated the Apostolic Prefecture to the Apostolic Vicariate on November 11, 1956 and appointed him Vicar Apostolic of Aitape and Titular Bishop of Mundinitza . He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . The Vicariate Apostolic was elevated to a diocese on November 15, 1966 and he was appointed Bishop of Aitape. He resigned from his office on June 6, 1969. Paul VI appointed him on June 6, 1969 titular bishop of Menefessi . He resigned from this office on July 7, 1976.
