Ignatz Rosenak
Ignatz Rosenak (born December 16, 1897 in Bremen , † September 12, 1957 in New York City ) was a German and American lawyer .
biography
Rosenak was the son of the Bremen rabbi Leopold Rosenak (1868–1923). As a volunteer in World War I , he was seriously wounded. After the war he studied law at the University of Frankfurt am Main , the University of Heidelberg and the University of Göttingen . In 1927 he established himself as a lawyer in Bremen. Rosenak fought early against the anti-Semitic propaganda in Bremen and tried again and again to get the Senate and the police to intervene. During the time of National Socialism he was the only Jewish admitted from 1933 to 1938Lawyer in Northern Germany. He was chairman of the Bremen committee for needy emigrants . He was also a member of various other Jewish associations and of the Freemason Lodge Kaiser Friedrich . In 1938 he emigrated with his family to the USA and in 1944 he became a lawyer in New York.
The Rosenak house in the Schnoor in Bremen was named after his father.
