The company was founded in 1873 and originally exported almost all types of grain . The malt business was still in its early stages. Initially, little importance was attached to this article, as most breweries were able to produce their malt requirements in their own malt houses . Only with the general upturn in the brewing industry did the need to purchase ready-made malt become more pronounced. The company grasped this moment with the right foresight and concentrated on malt exports, greatly benefiting from the experience and knowledge gained over a long number of years in the barley trade . In particular, the familiarity with the requirements of foreign brewery customers helped her a lot.

The company first leased the malt factory in Kirwein , in which around 100 wagons could be produced annually. In the first few years, however, it was already possible to increase sales to such an extent that this lease malting was no longer sufficient for the company's sphere of activity and they thought of a larger new building in a modern style. This was built in Paulowitz near Olomouc in 1881.

The sales increased from year to year so that the company Ignaz and Wilhelm Briess could be counted among the most important industrial companies in this branch on the continent . Their sales area extended, apart from all European countries, to South America , Japan , South Africa and Australia and enjoyed an international reputation.

In recognition of its merit in increasing exports, the company was awarded the distinction of being able to lead the imperial eagle in shields and victories by the kuk Moravian governorship . At the exhibitions sent by the company she received the following prizes: the first prize in Porto Alegre in 1881 , the gold medal in Trieste in 1882 , the silver medal at the world exhibition in Amsterdam in 1883, the gold medal in Saaz in 1883, the gold medal in 1885 in Antwerp gold medal, the diploma of honor in Brussels in 1888, the diploma of honor in Vienna in 1890 and the first prize in Gothenburg in 1891.

The company also acted as a juror at the following exhibitions: in 1891 in Paris, 1892 in Olomouc, 1894 in Antwerp and 1897 in Brussels . As a result of this activity, the products of Ignaz & Wilhelm Briess were out of competition at the four exhibitions concerned ( hors concours ).

The owners Ignaz and Wilhelm Briess were awarded the title of imperial court supplier as court malt manufacturer.
