Ignaz Netzer

Ignaz Netzer (born October 9, 1956 near Wangen im Allgäu ) is a German teacher , blues guitarist, harmonica player and singer / songwriter from Hohenlohe .

Life and Music before 1976

Ignaz Netzer received classical guitar lessons as a child. As a teenager he discovered the blues - a style of music that still shapes him today. Together with two friends, the young Netzer founded the Chicago blues band "Firma Kischke" in 1970. The first public concert took place in 1971. Netzer wrote socially critical texts in both English and Swabian. He also played with Derroll Adams and Colin Wilkie at the time . The Austrian radio station Ö3 dedicated a small portrait to him.

Study and work as a teacher

In 1976 Ignaz Netzer began studying German and history in Freiburg, which he completed in Heidelberg in 1982; then he completed further training as a bookseller. From 1990 to 2011 he worked as a teacher and taught German, history, English and music at a secondary school in Heilbronn .

Worked as a musician after 1976

In Freiburg, Netzer met Ray Austin , Werner Lämmerhirt , Hannes Wader and Klaus Weiland during these years . Netzer toured Germany and Switzerland with singer-songwriter Dirk Sommer. Alexis Korner had a great influence on his musical work . From 1978 Netzer toured with Gerry Lockran through Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. From 1978 Ignaz Netzer visited the southern United States to follow the roots of the blues. In Clarksdale he jammed with the elderly Wade Walton .

With the pianist Thomas Scheytt he founded the "Oldtime Blues & Boogie Duo", later also known as "Netzer & Scheytt". The two Swabians played concerts at major jazz and blues festivals in Europe. B. at Jazz Ascona, Dixieland Festival Dresden, Blue Balls Festival Lucerne and at the Jazzrallye Düsseldorf.

Ignaz Netzer was invited as a blues expert to the 3sat program "Concerto Massimo", a 24-hour TV documentary on the history of jazz. Since then, Barbara Dennerlein , Scheytt and Netzer have been playing as a trio in the unusual line-up of vocals, Hammond B3, piano, guitar and harmonica.

In the mid-1990s, Ignaz Netzer met the Czech musicians Lubos Andrst and Jaromir Helesic. Together with bassist Stenjek Tichota they formed the "Powerhouse Blues Band".

Netzer also worked with the American blues and jazz singer Jeanne Carroll until her death in 2011. With Christian Rannenberg they formed the "Basic Blues Trio". Concerts at festivals took place in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Netzer has been a full-time musician again since 2001.

In addition to his concert activities and work as a composer, he is now the artistic director of several series of events, an expert on vintage electric guitar and organizer of workshops for blues guitar. In 2015 he performed with guitarist Werner Acker .
