Klaus Weiland
Klaus Weiland (* 1947 in Bergen-Belsen ) is a German folk - guitarist and songwriter . He worked with musicians such as Hannes Wader , Werner Lämmerhirt , Ray Austin and Friedemann and released several solo CDs. Its title Das Loch in der Banana is the best-known fingerstyle piece in Germany: In the 1980s it was regularly used as break music for NDR television and served as background music for short films made by Klaus Hein Fischer , which were rich in detail Caricatures of northern German cities showed floating hot air balloons.
Life
Weiland was born in a refugee camp in the British Occupation Zone . After his mother married a British soldier, the family moved to Great Britain in 1950, where Weiland spent his youth. At 17 he started playing the guitar . Her parents' divorce was followed by a return to Germany. He was called up for military service, but his conscientious objection was accepted during basic training. So there was a farewell concert in the barracks, where he sang anti-war songs.
Klaus Weiland took up a language course at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1970 he became one of the founding members of the Freiburg Folk & Blues Club together with Ray Austin . He made the acquaintance of his role model Hannes Wader and his accompanying guitarist Werner Lämmerhirt. Wader took him on and introduced him to the greats of the then flourishing German folk scene. In the mid-1970s, Weiland worked as an accompanist or partner of Wader, Lämmerhirt, Sammy Vomáčka and others at numerous concerts and recordings and was regarded as one of the leading German acoustic guitarists . In 1975 he released his first LP Pebbles .
In view of the growing fame and the resulting, undesirable personality change, Weiland left Germany and became a globetrotter and adventurer for years. Eventually he settled in Texas , where he still lives today. In 1996 he was encouraged to make new solo recordings by a producer. The instrumental CD Acoustic Passion was created , followed by further solo CDs as well as recordings and concerts with Hannes Wader and others.
In the spring of 2010, Weiland had a Deerbridge acoustic guitar built with the name "Chiquita" - derived from its title The Hole in the Banana . The guitar was subjected to extensive criticism by Leonardt Breuken in an issue of the specialist magazine grand gtrs .
