Hannes Wader sings folk songs is an album by the singer and songwriter Hannes Wader from 1990.

Emergence

The folk song recordings by Hannes Wader are the continuation of the songwriter's examination of the songs of the people. His examination of such songs had already begun in 1974 with the album Plattdeutsche Lieder . The albums Hannes Wader: Volkssänger (1975), Hannes Wader sings Arbeitserlieder (1977) and Hannes Wader sings Shanties (1978) are also to be assessed as a result of this work. In 1990 the singer-songwriter continued this tradition with Hannes Wader singing folk songs .

Hannes Wader has not entered a studio since the production of the album Liebeslieder (1986). After the album Nach Hamburg the songwriter was canceled by his record company plans for political reasons. This album was released by Mercury , just like his previous Nach Hamburg (1989) . The trouble with the record companies should not end after that and Wader was fired from Mercury in 1993 and landed back at Plans-ARIS in 1994.

The songwriter worked on this album and the Hamburg song cycle published there for three years after he had scaled back his political activities and largely withdrew from the public. After the changes in world politics, especially the reign of Gorbachev in the Soviet Union , Wader's worldview finally collapsed. In 1991 he finally resigned from the German Communist Party , which was his political home for twelve years.
