chronology
Hannes Wader sings Shanties (1978) On the road again It's about time (1980)

An album by the singer and songwriter Hannes Wader from 1979 is on the road again .

History of origin

After Hannes Wader had worked as a folk singer from 1974 on through the albums Plattdeutsche Lieder , Hannes Wader: Volkssänger (1975), Hannes Wader sings Arbeitserlieder (1977) and Hannes Wader sings Shanties (1978) , he recorded another very political album here .

The album was created at the time of the radical decree . Media dependencies Artists acted more cautiously. Nevertheless, Hannes Wader spoke on current political issues. At the same time, the newly emerging peace movement inspired Wader on new topics. Wader had already made a name for himself in his songs such as B. "Already so long" dealt with this topic. His title It's Time on the 1980 album of the same name became something of a hymn for the peace movement. It was sung at demonstrations. Aside from the political songs, the album also contains two love songs ("In the garden" and "Schlaf Liebste").

particularities

Wader's first album for plans is back on the road - Aris. In 1989, in the wake of the political turbulence in the Eastern Bloc, Wader was fired from plans that were then considered to be a DKP- related company, only to return in 1994. The albums during this period appeared on Mercury.

On this album Jörg Suckow played on the cello, who had already played on the album Der Rattenfänger from 1974.

One of Wader's biographical titles is “Something still exists”, which deals with his apprenticeship as a decorator in an ironic and critical way.

The song "Dream of Peace" is a song that is owed to the peace movement that was very active at the time and is about the fact that people should throw all their weapons into a pit and no longer use them. It's about the dream that people will solve their problems through communication, that there will be no more wars and that there will be peace in the world.

"In the garden" comes from the folk singer Colin Wilkie and was translated into German by Wader.

In the song “Signature Collection” Wader tells of his (fictional) experiences when collecting signatures for the DKP. He addresses how demonstrations take place, how people form prejudices and always try to confirm them, as well as religion and sects and their peculiarities. A host of other political and social issues are also addressed here. The title “Back on the Road” also deals with social grievances and current political issues at the time.

The song "Friends, Comrades" takes a critical look at the surveillance and wiretapping of left-wing politically oriented people and is a reaction to the radical decree. As long as there are people who openly and courageously oppose the trend towards democratic dismantling, Wader notes hopefully in the end, the anti-democrats will not succeed in asserting themselves.
