Werner Acker

Werner Acker (born July 1, 1955 in Neufra ) is a German musician ( guitarist ), university lecturer and band leader in Stuttgart.

Live and act

Acker began to play the electric guitar autodidactically at the age of eleven , and initially also the electric bass. At the age of 15 he made his first radio recordings for Südwestfunk Baden-Baden as an electric bass player in the Gerhard Wenzel Trio. During this time he also began as a guitarist with regular appearances in cover bands . He obtained his Abitur in Balingen in 1975 with a major in music. Werner Acker studied music and mathematics at the PH Ludwigsburg and passed the state examination in 1979 .

From 1980 to 1983 he took lessons from John Abercrombie , Steve Erquiaga, Bill Dobbins and Dave Liebman . In 1984 he was studying at the Summer Clinic at Berklee College of Music in Boston . He has lived in the Stuttgart area since 1975. His activities went and go in diverse musical styles such as jazz , blues , rock , soul , gospel and pop .

Since 1983 Acker has been a lecturer at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in the subjects of guitar, jazz / pop, jazz harmonics and ensemble management. He is also a guest lecturer in the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra and at the Stuttgart Student Jazz Days. Over the years Acker has been involved in a number of musical productions in southern Germany. In the late 1980s he worked several times at the Stuttgart State Theater , for example in Bye Bye Showbiz , in line 1 (both with Ute Lemper and Michael Mendel) and in Cole Porter's Vodka Cola . In 2002 he played in Cats - a production performed at the SI-Centrum Musical Theater Stuttgart.

In 2006 Werner Acker was overall musical director of the production Three Angels for Dylan at the Stuttgart State Theater. Since 2015 he has also been on the road with his own band with the line-up Werner Acker - guitar, Andreas Francke - alto sax, Uli Gutscher - trombone, Matthias Dörsam - tenor sax / barisax, Rainer Scheithauer - pno / keys, Hansi Schuller - e-bass / double bass and Herbert Wachter - drums.

Werner Acker lives with his wife Sabine in Obergruppenbach near Heilbronn and has a daughter who is studying.
