Ignaz Withalm

Ignaz Withalm (born March 23, 1851 in Gaunersdorf , Lower Austria , † September 16, 1910 ibid) was an Austrian miller and politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP). As a member of parliament, he was represented both in the Lower Austrian state parliament and in the Reichsrat .

Life

He came from the large farming milieu of the southern Weinviertel and inherited the Withalmmühle from his father Michael Johann Withalm (1807-1880). From 1876 Ignaz Withalm was involved in the rural professional representation in connection with the emerging political Catholicism . From 1876 he was a member of the community committee, in 1897 he was elected mayor of Gaweinstal (then still Gaunersdorf ). From 1902 until his death in 1910 Ignaz Withalm was a member of the Lower Austrian Landtag . In the first elections to the Reichsrat under universal suffrage in 1907 , he was elected as a Christian social candidate for the constituency of Mistelbach-Matzen-Land . In addition, he held numerous other offices, including director of the savings and advance payment association, vice president of the local railway company Gänserndorf – Gaunersdorf and a member of the district school council and the district road committee. As mayor worked for the rail connection of his home community. Ignaz Withalm was the grandfather of Hermann Withalm , who later became Vice Chancellor of the Republic of Austria.
