Igor Alexandrovich Moiseyev
Igor Moiseyev ( Russian Игорь Александрович Моисеев ., Scientific transliteration Igor Aleksandrovich Moiseev ; * 8. jul. / 21st January 1906 greg. In Kiev , † 2. November 2007 in Moscow ) was a Russian ballet dancer and choreographer .
Life
Moiseyev was the son of a lawyer in Kiev the light of day. Just a few months after his birth, the family moved to Paris , where Moiseyev was raised bilingually. His mother, who sewed costumes for performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet , gave him an early interest in drama and dance.
In 1914 the family returned to Russia. She first settled in Poltava , Ukraine, before moving to Moscow a year later . There Moissejew attended a grammar school, where he devoted himself particularly to painting, poetry and physical education. At the age of 12 he enrolled at the Wera Mossolowa ballet academy. She recognized his talent and placed him in the school of Alexander Gorski in the Bolshoi Theater , which he graduated in 1924.
This enabled Moissejew to fulfill his childhood dream and join the Bolshoi Ballet . But he was not satisfied with the role of the dancer, which he played until 1939, but wanted to realize entirely new ideas. He became ballet master at the Bolshoi Theater in 1936 and put together his own folk dance group in 1937. His combination of folklore and theater developed into a gigantic success: Moissejew created several hundred dances, the ensemble still performs all over the world today. The first performance was entitled Dances of the Peoples of the Soviet Union .
Moiseev was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
