Germany 1914, First World War . While the war is raging, women at home are asked to send encouraging letters and small gifts to the soldiers. Sergeant Wendelin Liebreich, wounded at the front, also received a package with a love letter. Since the words of the letter touch him very much, he wants to meet the young woman on the occasion of his home leave in Berlin. To his surprise, he finds out that the "young woman" is a school girl. He is touched, she invites him to her home for a cocoa, where he also meets her family, who also give him presents.
