Ike Levin

Ike Levin (born June 26, 1950 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American tenor saxophonist (also bass clarinet ) of creative jazz .

Levin began his musical career in the jazz and blues scene in his hometown, then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to study composition at the Roosevelt University Conservatory of Music and Jazz at the University of Illinois in Chicago . During this time he performed with the University of Illinois Jazz Orchestra and had private lessons with Joe Daley and Fred Anderson , through whom he came into contact with the jazz avant-garde of Chicago. In the following years he performed mainly in Chicago; then he moved to San Francisco and was active in the local scene. This was followed by tours in the United States and Canada. Levion has worked closely with pianist Joel Futterman since the 1990s , with whom he also founded a trio and released joint recordings. He also directed his own combos. Levin has also performed with musicians such as Ira Sullivan , Robert Barry , Wilbur Campbell , Reggie Nicholson , Alvin Fielder and Kash Killion .
