Iketani Shinzaburō

Iketani Shinzaburō ( Japanese 池 谷 信 三郎 ; * October 15, 1900 in Kyōbashi , Tokyo City (today: Chūō , Tokyo ), Tokyo Prefecture ; † December 21, 1933 ) was a Japanese writer and playwright .

Life

Iketani began with Chōka in his high school alumni magazine. He studied law at the University of Tokyo and the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1922 he enrolled at the university, a year later he went to Berlin, where he was interested in European art, encouraged by his school friend and mentor Murayama Tomoyoshi .

Due to the Kanto earthquake and the loss of the parental home, Iketani returned to Japan in 1923. His experiences during his stay in Berlin flowed into the novel Bōkyō , published in 1925 . Together with Murayama he founded the theater group Shinza ( 心 座 ) with which he performed Sangatsu sanjūni nichi . In 1930 he wrote together with Funabashi Seiichi Kawahoriza ( 蝙蝠 座 ). Iketani died of tuberculosis.

In 1936 the president of the publishing house Bungei Shunjū Kikuchi Kan founded the Iketani Shinzaburō Prize , which was awarded until 1942.
