Ilannguaq G. Jensen

Lars Ilannguaq Sakæus Geisler Jensen [ lɑːs iˈlaŋːuɑq saˈkɛːus ˈgai̯slʌ ˈjɛnsn̩ ] (born June 8, 1939 in Savissivik ) is a Greenlandic pastor , provost , teacher and journalist .

Life

Ilannguaq Jensen is the son of the catechist Hans Jakob Peter Thue Jensen (1914–1993) and his wife Therecie Hanne Judithe Geisler (1915–?). On August 3, 1968, he married the Danish teacher Kirsten Bæhr Mortensen (* 1942). The marriage ended in divorce in 1987.

He graduated from Grønland's seminarium in 1961 , studied for a year in Denmark and then began studying theology, which he completed in 1967. That same year he was at Københavns Domkirke ordained . He was an auxiliary pastor in Avedøre Sogn for a year and then returned to Greenland, where he was pastor of Upernavik . In 1970 he became a Danish pastor in Greenland and in 1972 a Greenland pastor in Denmark. In 1973 he returned to Greenland again and became a pastor in Aasiaat , but moved to Nuuk the following year . During this time he was also a teacher for aspiring catechists until 1978. From 1977 to 1978 he also taught Christianity at the seminary. In 1980 he was appointed provost for North Greenland, which he remained until 1997. Then he became a pastor again in Nuuk.

From 1969 to 1970 he was director of the youth and evening school in Upernavik. From 1972 to 1973 he was vice-chairman of Den grønlandske Kirkesag . From 1974 to 1980 he was editor of Kirkeligt magasin and Fra Troens Verden at the KNR and member of the editorial board of Sermitsiaq . He has served on other associations and committees, including Rotary International . He also worked as a translator for religion-related articles in books and magazines. On September 7, 2005 he received the Nersornaat in silver.
