Ilha is a municipality ( freguesia ) on the north coast of the Portuguese island of Madeira , in the district ( concelho ) of Santana . The community has an area of ​​14.2 km² and 255 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

The community of Ilha was created in 1989 by splitting off from the community of São Jorge .

In 1999 , UNESCO added the Madeira Laurisilva Forest to its World Heritage List . The community of Ilha is largely located in this nature reserve.
