Ilijan Vasilev

Ilijan Wassilew , Bulgarian Илиян Василев , (born July 7, 1956 ) is a Bulgarian diplomat , author and political blogger .

Life

He was Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Russian Federation from 2000 to 2006 , after which he became Chairman of Deloitte in Bulgaria. He has worked as an advisor to the Bulgarian government on energy-related issues and is a regular commentator on energy security for Western media, including the Financial Times and Reuters news agency .

After leaving Deloitte in 2011, he started his own consulting firm, Innovative Energy Solutions. Vasilev is an energy security activist, supports the development of shale gas fields in Bulgaria, the construction of the Nabucco pipeline project, is a commentator on the feasibility of the Belene nuclear power plant and the South Stream pipeline project.

Vasilev is one of the 89 people from the European Union against whom Russia - as it became known at the end of May 2015 - has imposed an entry ban.
