Ilja Arnoldowitsch Ilf
Ilya Ilf Arnoldovich ( Russian Илья Арнольдович Ильф , actually Iechiel body Fainsilberg ( Russian Иехиел Лейб Файнзильберг ); born October 3 . Jul / 15. October 1897 . Greg in Odessa ; † 13. April 1937 in Moscow ) was a Russian - Soviet writer . His stage name Ilf is derived from his real name I echiel L eib F ainsilberg.
Life
Ilja Ilf was born into a Jewish family in Odessa in 1897 . He worked with Yevgeny Petrov (1903-1942) from 1927 for satirical newspapers. Both became famous through their novels " Twelve Chairs " and " The Golden Calf ", which they wrote together as Ilf and Petrow , in which the cunning deceiver Ostap Bender is the main character. As Petrow later described in his "Memories of Ilf", Ilya Ilf told him about his tuberculosis , from which he died in Moscow in 1937, while they were visiting the cemetery together on their trip to the USA .
