Ilmar Trull

Ilmar Trull (born February 21, 1957 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian poet , humorist and children's book author and book illustrator.

Life

Ilmar Trull graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1975 and then studied English philology at the University of Tartu for a few years . From 1978 to 1980 he did his military service in the Soviet Army , after which he worked in various positions and as a freelancer. From 1985 to 1995 he was an editor at the satirical magazine Pikker ('Thunderstorm'), which was critical of the Singing Revolution in Estonia and was sometimes harassed by the authorities.

Trull has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1996 and lives as a freelance writer in Tallinn.

Trull made his debut in 1977 with poems and children's songs in periodicals and compilations and published his first volume of poetry in 1984. Although the critics drew comparisons to Jüri Üdi , Andres Ehin and Johnny B. Isotamm , they were generally reluctant because the previously published poems "raised more hopes [...] than this collection can now satisfy."
