The chanson tells of the people who wait every day for great happiness and forget about life in the here and now. The song was released along with the song For 300 Francs by the Ariola record company . This song was performed more speaking than singing.

German preliminary decision and Eurovision Song Contest

The German preliminary decision on May 1, 1956 in Cologne was moderated by Heinz Piper . In addition to Walter Andreas Schwarz, Freddy Quinn ( This is how it works every night ) qualified for the competition, as two songs per country were allowed in the first Eurovision Song Contest.

However, the ARD assumes on its official website that there was no preliminary decision at all, as none of the participants mentioned could remember such an event. The broadcast of the preliminary decision was announced in the TV magazines .

On May 24, 1956, the song with the start number 4 was the first German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest. It is unclear what position the song was able to achieve, as only the winning title Refrain from Lys Assia was announced and the remaining results were not published. The evaluation documents were destroyed; however there is a rumor that this song could have reached the 2nd place. On the ARD website, this song is assigned 13th place like any other song.
