Im Winkel in Bochum and Gußstahlstraße form the red light district of Bochum. The local name for the street is Eierberg , Gurke , Riemenschleifer or Riemenwalzwerk .

The Märkische spokesman reported in 1912 on the city's plans to allow a “regulated brothel operation in the immediate vicinity of the city center” on what was then Maarbrücker Strasse. The quarter had a predecessor since 1904 in Hamme with at least eight brothels along the railway tracks on Kurzen Strasse (today Sophienstrasse); considerable overburden led to resettlement.

The collection of brothels is laid out in the style of a contact courtyard and with shop windows. Depending on the time of day, 50 to 100 prostitutes offer their services here. A Laufhaus was also opened in March 2007 .

The restricted area ordinance of the city of Bochum of January 21, 2003 limits the practice of prostitution to the street Im Winkel . On May 31, 2006, the Gelsenkirchen Administrative Court criticized the fact that some formulations did not describe the boundaries of the restricted area precisely enough.

Are located in close proximity to the site of the traditional company Bochumer association of West Park Bochum and the Centennial Hall . The adjacent district is Stahlhausen .

The organic structural structure of the site can be described as a special feature, as several alleys and squares create an almost village-like atmosphere. The Madonna Association offers on-site advice for prostitutes.
