Imam Muda (Eng. "Young Imam" , "Young Leader" ) is a casting show from 2010 on the Malay pay-TV channel Astro TV.

The format of the program was based on models such as American Idol or Deutschland sucht den Superstar . However, they were not looking for pop stars, but a young imam as an Islamic role model for the youth.

From over 1000 applicants, 10 candidates between the ages of 19 and 27 were selected, who lived together in a mosque from the beginning of the show until the finale on July 30, 2010 and were not allowed to use the telephone, the Internet or television and had to cope with different tasks every week. This included, for example, the correct preparation of an HIV- positive corpse for burial , slaughter according to Islamic regulations, reading quotations from the Koran or advising a couple with marital problems. In the 90-minute episodes, the candidates' weekly tasks were assessed. At the end of each episode, a candidate had to leave the show. The former head imam of the Masjid Negara in Kuala Lumpur , Ustaz Hasan Mahmud al-Hafiz , acted as head of the three-person jury .

Season one winner Muhammad Asyraf bin Mohd Ridzuan received a scholarship for postgraduate courses at the Islamic University of Medina in Saudi Arabia , fully funded participation in Hajj, and employment as an imam at a prestigious mosque; as prizes in kind, among other things, a Proton Exora , an iPhone , a MacBook Pro and 20,000 Ringgit (almost 5,000 euros).

The show was Astro TV's most watched program to date and attracted worldwide attention.
