Immanuel Carl Rösler (* 1891 in Schorndorf ; † 1974 there ) was an architect and local researcher from Württemberg .

Act

Rösler's work as a historian is particularly important for the old town of Schorndorf. He was active in researching local history in many ways, as a publicist and also practically. In 1923 he settled in his hometown as an architect. At his instigation, the half-timbered houses in the center were uncovered between 1927 and 1931 ; It started with the Palm Pharmacy on the historic market square after Rösler discovered the important half-timbered structure of the building.

In the population, the measures initiated by Rösler were initially viewed rather critically or they were completely averse to them: Many associated rural houses with the exposed framework, which the beautiful patrician houses were now made into. Accordingly, it took a lot of persuasion for Rösler to implement the measures. He did not regard the framework as inferior; he saw it as a testimony to “the sensible building attitude of [his] ancestors”, the Schorndorfer, an ideal of structural beauty and aesthetics .

Legal ideological influences

From 1925 Immanuel Carl Rösler was a member of the homeland security movement . Just as it was generally receptive to nationalist right-wing currents, so was Rösler too. Local research often took place against this background; a picture of an idealized building and family history was conveyed. Architectural aesthetics and tradition were lost to Rösler and other leading local researchers from around 1800. Above all, buildings that were built at the time of the Industrial Revolution were considered modernist by the homeland security movement and were rejected.

Rösler's work was recognized as a great achievement to "beautify the cityscape" in a 1936 report by the Stuttgart Nazi courier . In addition to this recognition, Rösler also received various offers for prestigious positions from local leaders. He was always woven into the National Socialist ideology , which he probably allowed willingly. During the time of National Socialism he was a local councilor ; In 1936 he was given the management of the Schorndorfer Heimatmuseum. In May 1937 he joined the NSDAP .

In spite of all this, Immanuel Carl Rösler was a pioneer with his research on the history of architecture; he is one of the most important historians in Schorndorf's town history. His work and research have contributed significantly to the preservation and present-day image of the old town and to the popularity of the market square. Rösler is buried in the old cemetery in Schorndorf.
