Imprecation is an American black and death metal band from Houston , Texas , which was formed in 1991, disbanded in 1998 and has been active again since 2009.

history

The band was formed in late 1991 by drummer Ruben Elizondo and guitarist Phil Westmoreland. The line-up was supplemented by the singer David Herrera, the bassist Mark Beecher and the guitarist Victor Fernandez. In April 1992, a first demo was then recorded, the Ceremony of the Nine Angels was entitled. This was followed by local appearances, while the demo was distributed via smaller fanzines and radio stations. After the release, Fernandez was replaced by Wes Weaver. In April 1993 the EP Sigil of Baphomet , which contains two songs, was recorded and released on the Spanish label Drown Productions . After the release, Herrera and Westmoreland left the band, whereupon bassist Beecher also took over the vocals and Todd Smith, a friend of the band, played the electric guitar. In August 1994, a three-song demo was recorded. The songs of the demo are also included on the compilation Theurgia Goetia Summa by Repulse Records . In 1996 Todd Smith left the band, after which Jim Case took over the game of the electric guitar. Albert Rodriquez was hired as a keyboardist as a further member. With this changed line-up, another demo was recorded, which contains two songs, with which the group applied to various labels. However, since she could not achieve a record deal, she broke up in 1998.

As early as 2002, Elizondo, Westmoreland, Weaver and Herrera revived the band to play at the Infernal Horde of Manifestation Festival in Houston, Texas, which Mark Beecher was unable to attend. The performance was recorded and released on audio cassette , of which 100 copies were made. In 2009 two new songs were recorded and released. That year the line-up consisted of Westmoreland, Herrera, the drummer Elizondo, who now also played the keyboard, as well as the guitarist Case and the bassist Danny "Archfiend" Hiller. In 2013, the debut album Satanae Tenebris Infinita was released via Dark Descent Records . The album was recorded at Big Door Studios, owned by a friend of Herrera's, in Webster , Texas. The sound carrier should initially be called Of the Black Earth . However, since labelmates Maveth had an album titled Coils of the Black Earth and Imprecation also had a song called The Coils of Eden , it was decided to rename the album.

style

Joel McIver referred to Imprecation in his book Extreme Metal II as a black metal band. Deathmetal.org's Brett Stevens wrote that the band combines different styles of death metal. The music is morbid, esoteric and uses the symbolism of the path to the left hand . In an interview with him, David Herrera stated that although he does not read much due to lack of time, he is influenced by poems by Frost and Edgar Allan Poe and other literature by HP Lovecraft , Aleister Crowley , Jack London and Clive Barker . In his review of Satanae Tenebris Infinita , André Gabriel of metal.de described Imprecation as an old-school death metal band. The main riff of the song Angel of Salvation's Doom reminds me a lot of Unleashed . In contrast to earlier works, the songs are now more in the medium than in the high speed range, although the group occasionally uses Black Metal in their songs.
