In Vain is a Norwegian metal band from Kristiansand that was formed in 2003.

history

The band was formed in 2003. After the group released their first two EPs, they signed a deal with Indie Recordings in 2005 . Two years later the debut album The Latter Rain followed , on which around 20 guest musicians could be heard. The release was followed by a European tour with Battered and Vreid . This was followed by appearances at various festivals, such as the Inferno Metal Festival Norway , before work on the second album began, which was released in 2010 under the name Mantra . In 2013 the album Ænigma followed.

style

The first two EPs were still heavily influenced by Black Metal . In the later albums, elements from Death Doom and Progressive Metal increased. The songs deal with topics such as the Mississippi River or the attempt of the Nez Percé tribe to escape from their forced reservation to Canada . In addition to Death and Doom elements, the debut album The Latter Rain shows influences from Epic Metal . In addition, non-genre instruments such as an organ , wind instruments or a saxophone and samples are used. Progressive metal predominated on the album Mantra , with influences from death and black metal being audible. Ænigma is described as a mixture of black and progressive metal and is compared to Enslaved .
