Location and description

The location is in the area of ​​the streets Steinbeck and Cronenberger Straße , Im Ostersiepen and Keplerweg in the residential area of Grifflenberg in the Elberfeld district at an altitude of 190  m above sea level. NHN . The original residential area is now overbuilt by a newer housing estate. In Hatzenbeck the Ostersiepen flows into the Hatzenbeck brook of the same name . On the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824, a place is recorded as well as on the Prussian first survey of 1843. The name Hatzenbeck is used next to the settlement core on later measuring table sheets for the entire development on Cronenberger Straße .

In 1815/16 the place had 53 inhabitants. In 1832 the place belonged to the wood and Eichholzer Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . The place, categorized as individual houses according to the statistics and topography of the administrative district of Düsseldorf , was designated as in the Hatzenbeek and at that time had eight residential buildings and six agricultural buildings. At that time, 135 inhabitants lived in the place, seven Catholic and 128 Protestant faith.

Today's street Cronenberger Straße or Steinbeck was a regionally important trade route between Cologne and the Rhine near Hitdorf and the then independent town of Elberfeld , which was expanded into the provincial road Elberfeld – Hitdorf in the 19th century . Hatzenbeck was on this heavily frequented road , which was classified as a state road.
