In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A. Furthermore, the bridge, together with the old swing bridge by Renfrew and the White Cart Bridge over the White Cart Water, form a category A monument ensemble.
history
After an earlier bridge at this location was destroyed in 1809, the construction of what is now Inchinnan Bridge was commissioned. It was built together with the White Cart Bridge, a short distance to the east, over White Cart Water. Both bridges have numerous similarities. The engineer Robertson Buchanan is responsible as the architect . Both bridges were completed in 1812 and cost a total of £ 17,000.
description
On the arch bridge, the A8 runs over Black Cart Water on its section between Glasgow and Greenock . It consists of three segmental arches, of which the middle one has the highest clear height. The two outer arches have only narrow widths. The pillars have niches designed with Doric pillars. A parapet made of embossed masonry delimits the roadway.
