The India Buildings are a commercial building in the Scottish city of Dundee in the council area of the same name . In 1965 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The India Buildings were completed in 1874. Scottish architect John Murray Robertson is responsible for the design . The building was expanded just two years after completion.

The three-story commercial building stands on the northern edge of Dundee city center at the junction of Victoria Road and Bell Street off the A929 . The University of Abertay and the High School of Dundee are nearby . Stylistically, the Greek Revival building shows parallels to the architecture of Alexander Thomson . While natural stone blocks were built along the front facade, the masonry of the side facades and the rear facade are made of brick . The symmetrically constructed facade along Bell Street is five axes wide. On axes two and four, the windows are coupled to form triplets . A triangular gable with an ornamented tympanum crowns the central entrance portal. An anthemic frieze divides the facade horizontally. A cornice closes the facade. The seven-axis-wide facade along Victoria Road is designed analogously. The final roof is covered with slate.
