The Indian glass perch ( Parambassis ranga ) is a perch-related fish that is found in fresh and brackish water from India to Thailand . The fish have glassy, transparent bodies that shimmer in different colors depending on the incidence of light and allow a view of the internal organs and the spine of the animals. They are schooling fish that can grow up to 8 cm.

The fish is found in stagnant and slow-flowing waters and feeds on various invertebrates, especially worms and crustaceans. Reproduction takes place during the rainy season.
Aquaristics
In the aquarium you can keep the glass perches in groups of 10 or more animals. Animals kept singly or in pairs become very anxious. The water temperature may be 22–26 ° C. A little sea salt should be added to the water , about 1–2 tablespoons per 10 liters (according to Riehl & Baensch). Other authors recommend well-planted tanks for the fish (which does not get along well with the increase in salt). A substrate that is as dark as possible is also recommended. Almost exclusively live food is eaten, which should not be too big. Cyclops are well suited. Indian glass perches are peaceful and rather shy, so they should only be kept with peaceful, calm fish.

In the aquarium you simulate the rainy season by replacing old water with fresh. This makes the animals ready to spawn . It spawns on finely feathered aquatic plants near the water surface. The glass perches do not care for the breeding, the eggs are no longer observed by their parents. The rearing of the fry is very difficult, as they can only eat tiny food, such as cyclopsnauplii .
