The Indomito class (also "Impetuoso class") was a ship class of the Italian Navy . The class consisted of two destroyers that were built in the 1950s in Riva Trigoso near Genoa and in Livorno . The ships in service until the beginning of the 1980s were mainly used for submarine hunting and anti-sea targeting.

history

The Indomito-class ships were the first destroyers built in Italy after World War II . They were based on the destroyer class Comandanti Medaglie d'Oro, which was commissioned during the war but never realized . It was not until the Impavido class that followed in 1962 that Italian destroyers also received guided weapons and a flight deck for helicopters. In the case of the Indomito class, the classic armament remained despite modernization in the 1970s.

Ships of the class

The name of the class is not clear, it is also called the Impetuoso class. The Italian Navy officially calls them the Indomito class because the Indomito was launched before the Impetuoso . In the past, the two ship names carried torpedo boats, most recently two of the Ciclone class .
