Indrek Tart (pseudonym Julius Ürt , born May 2, 1946 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian literary scholar and poet .

Life

Tart graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1964 and studied physics at the University of Tartu from 1964 to 1969 . He then worked as an engineer at the Cybernetic Institute of the Estonian Academy of Sciences until 1980 and at the Institute for Chemical and Biological Physics there from 1980 to 1992. After completing a master's degree in information science (1993), Tart worked for over 20 years at the Department of Cultural Studies at Tallinn University until 2016 . He was at the University with a thesis on the Estonian poetry from 1638-2000 to 2002 Dr. phil. PhD.

Tart has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1991 .

Tart made his debut under the pseudonym Julius Ürt in 1981 with a volume of poetry, which was received cautiously by the critics. a. because it contained "more good verses than good poems". This was followed by a longer break, and it was not until 2000 that Tart published poems again in Looming magazine . In 2016 he published his second volume of poetry.

Tart is better known for his literary historical and bibliometric works. His systematic research into the history of Estonian poetry has shown that between 1638 and 2000 a total of 4,132 volumes of poetry were published in Estonia (excluding folk poetry and poetry translated into Estonian) and that 933 authors were counted.
