Inductor (electrical engineering)
An inductor is used in induction devices to transfer the current from the induction heater into the workpiece .
The pole wheel of certain rotating electrical machines is also referred to as an inductor .
Inductor as a heater
Inductors can be used in a variety of forms, e.g. B. as flat coils , as coils , as a single turn, etc. The shape of the inductor must be adapted to the workpiece to be heated so that an optimum of efficiency can be coupled out during induction heating .
Inductor on casting furnaces
In the foundry - furnace construction of the inductor is under the channel furnace mounted heating of the furnace. The channel inductor consists of one or two semi-circular grooves of refractory - concrete , which are filled with liquid metal, these serve as a secondary coil . In the hollow interior of this channel (s) there is a current-carrying copper coil as the primary coil. A core made of electrical steel guides the field lines .
Another design is the crucible inductor . This consists of an approximately cylindrical pot made of refractory concrete, which is wrapped with a current-carrying coil; basically a small crucible furnace .
Inductor in synchronous machines
The rotors of three-phase synchronous generators , which are designed as internal pole machines, are called inductors. The excitation winding , which is used to induce voltage in the armature , is located on the inductor .
