The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Rhein-Neckar is the chamber of industry and commerce for the urban districts of Heidelberg and Mannheim , the Neckar-Odenwald district and the Rhein-Neckar district . The seat is Mannheim.
organization
The chamber represents around 75,000 member companies. Every five years they elect the 85-member general assembly. This is elected by the Presidium with President Manfred Schnabel at the top.
history
The oldest traces of economic self-government in Heidelberg are the statutes of the shopkeeper's guild from 1699. In Mannheim, Elector Karl III. Philip 1728 guild privileges. Chambers of commerce were formed on September 20, 1831 in Mannheim and on December 26, 1848 in Heidelberg. The Baden Chamber of Commerce Act of December 11, 1878 (based on the Prussian one of 1870) put an end to the "wild growth" of various types of trade associations in Baden, which, due to voluntary memberships, were only able to represent the general interest to a limited extent. It regulates that all companies entered in the commercial register automatically become members of the respective chamber of commerce.
With the law amending the Chamber of Commerce Act of July 1, 1933, a central Baden Chamber of Commerce and Industry was created with its seat in Karlsruhe. As early as 1935, however, this central administration was divided into four chambers (Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Pforzheim). This meant that Heidelberg and Mannheim had a joint chamber for a few years. On March 22, 1943, the Mannheim Chamber of Commerce and Industry was dissolved and transferred to the Upper Rhine Gauwirtschaftskammer based in Karlsruhe / Strasbourg. The Mannheim Chamber of Commerce (including Heidelberg, with its own legal personality) remained on site.
With order no. 3 of the North Baden military government of January 16, 1946, chambers of industry and commerce were reestablished in Heidelberg and Mannheim. The legal basis was the decree of the Württemberg-Baden Ministry of Economic Affairs of 23 August 1946 and later the IHK law of 1956.
On January 1, 1973 the IHK Mannheim and IHK Heidelberg merged to form the IHK Rhein-Neckar.
