Carl Gotthard Hammerbeck
Carl Gotthard Hammerbeck (* 3rd August July / 15 August 1800 greg. In Weissenstein ; † 25 February July / 9 March 1870 greg. In Fellin ) was a Baltic German clergyman.
Life
His parents were the master locksmith Christian Friedrich Hammerbeck (1754–1823) and Anna Elisabeth, b. Stenfors. Carl Gotthard Hammerbeck first attended the district school in his hometown Weissenstein and then from 1815 to 1820 the Gustav Adolf grammar school in Reval. From 1820 to 1823 he studied theology in Dorpat . After graduating, he initially worked as a tutor. In 1825 he became pastor of Weissenstein and St. Annen. His ordination took place on November 15, 1825 in the knight's and cathedral church by pastor Hörschelmann.
Carl Gotthard Hammerbeck founded the first Estonian-speaking school in Weissenstein.
In 1826 he married Franziska Ahlbaum. The marriage had a son, Karl Georg Hammerbeck (1831–1875).
In June 1866 he suffered a stroke in the pulpit and took his leave the following month. He then moved to Fellin , where he died in 1870. He was buried in Weissenstein.

The "Paide Hammerbecki Põhikool" in Weissenstein bears his name.
