Philipp Daniel Diffené (born May 26, 1833 in Mannheim ; † January 4, 1903 there ) was a German businessman and politician , member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Philipp Diffené was the son of Mannheim's Lord Mayor and wine merchant Heinrich Christian Diffené . He was married to Emma geb. Böhme (1840-1903). His daughter Emma (1865–1931) was married to Georg Otto Giulini (1858–1954). He was co-owner of the tobacco and wine wholesaler Sauerbeck & Diffené. In 1876 he became Vice President and from 1880 until his death he was President of the Chamber of Commerce for the Mannheim district. He was also chairman of the Mannheim section of the German Colonial Association , member of the commercial court , member of the city ​​council board and royal Belgian consul . In 1892/1893 he was a member of the stock market inquiry commission .

From 1881 he was a member of the first Baden Chamber of Estates , and since 1893 its second vice-president. From 1886 to 1890 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Baden 11 (Mannheim) and the National Liberal Party .

He was president of the Badischer Handeltag as well as various patriotic and non-profit associations and was awarded the honorary title of Privy Councilor of Commerce .

In 1903 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Mannheim posthumously. The city also named a bridge and a road after him.

His grave in the main cemetery in Mannheim is a grove-like complex with a limestone monument. A staircase leads to a large boulder that serves as a base for the grave cross. On the upper steps is a limestone rose, next to it was a life-size, mourning angel made of marble.
