The profession of industrial electronics technician is divided into the two fields of production technology and device technology. Both professions have not been trained since August 1, 2003.

Industrial electronics technician specializing in production technology

Industrial electronics specialists specializing in production technology work on the automated equipment (e.g. production lines, industrial robots ) in industry . Machines, systems and processes are made ready for operation, adjusted, maintained and repaired. In the course of this work, control and test programs are written or adapted to optimize or change processes. Disruptions in the process flow are eliminated, defective components are replaced or repaired.

The locations of industrial electronics specializing in production technology are usually assembly , quality assurance and maintenance in large industrial companies.

Training to become an industrial electronics technician / production technology specialist has not been possible since August 1, 2003. It was replaced by training as an electronics technician for automation technology (industry).

Industrial electronics technician specializing in device technology

Industrial electronics specialists specializing in device technology manufacture mechanical, electromechanical and electronic components and devices . For this purpose they have to read and / or prepare technical documents, process materials , perform basic electronic work and operate automated production facilities. The functionality of the manufactured parts and devices is checked, necessary corrections and setting measures must be made and the work must be documented.

Industrial electronics specialists specializing in device technology are usually employed in production , maintenance, quality assurance and development in medium-sized and large industrial companies.

Training as an industrial electronics technician / device technology has not been possible since August 1, 2003. It was replaced by training as an electronics technician for devices and systems.
